A Personal Story of Friendship
Hey! It's Bryson! I met Connor in 2018 scrolling on Instagram. We had mutual friends and I saw that he was doing photo work in our college town. I was just recently getting into the photo and video world and I needed friends desperately.
I DM'd Connor and we decided to meet up at a local Dutch Bro's. After 10 seconds of talking to this guy I knew he would be a best friend. I however could never have imagined the life we ended up living.
Connor and I worked on most things separately until we heard of a music video contest thrown by Justin Caruso for his new song "More Than a Stranger." That was our first project together. Did we win? No, it was the worst video in the world and we will make sure it will never see the light of day, but it was a start.
After that, our friendship got even closer.
Over time Connor leveraged his network in the college town to the close by city of Portland. Within a short timespan Connor was pulling in massive months. He soon got the opportunity to move to Las Vegas to shoot for a band that had 2 members of Lifehouse in it.
During this time I had made the crazy move to Austin, Texas. I moved January 2, 2020 (great timing) and hit the ground running. I was dead set on touring with EDM artists and somehow finding my way into the music scene. For me Austin made a lot of sense. We all know what happened next. Unlike most people I was fortunate enough to actually get more opportunity from Covid.
Texas was only shut down for a little while and started throwing socially distanced shows. I got a job working at a local club making hardly any money but trying to make as many connections as possible. Turns out a TON of headliners wanted to get stage time and get out of LA; artists that would normally not play at a venue so small. I got so much experience working there it really made a massive difference.
By late 2021 I was down bad. Fixing cell phones for a living to pay the bills I finally got the opportunity to shoot shows for Krewella. After shooting a couple in Texas for them, I got the text of a lifetime:
"Hey Bryson, the girls love you! Would you like to go on tour next year?"
I remember this was the first time I had ever cried happy tears. With $1,000 in my bank account I decided to quit my job fixing cell phones expecting tour to start in March and HOPING I could find clients in the meantime.
I went crazy. It was November and I had one small editing gig for weddings. I started networking with the exact strategies we talk about in the course and my whole life changed. By February of 2022 I had a couple recurring clients under my belt and was still very poor but I was floating.
Connor was finding his place in Vegas. He is one of the best networkers I have met and really used his skills in that city. Following moving to vegas with the band he picked up gigs everywhere. This included events and weddings all over the country. (connor expand on this i can only say so many good things about you)
Eventually my expectations in Austin changed. Suddenly I was shooting businesses everywhere. Touring with an EDM group called Friendzone regularly and shooting events all over North and Central America. I have nights where I still can't believe this life is real. And the best part?
Guess who decided to move to Austin?
Yep you guessed it, CONNOR!
After working together on this project and a documentary in Napa, California we realized the amazing potential of working closer together. Now as veterans in the film world we have found an amazing value in providing information to others beginning this journey both free and paid content. This is a whole new chapter of our lives and we cannot wait to share it with you.
